Made in USA
The media could not be loaded. ย Perfect camp / survival knife . I opted for the 12 inch over the 18 inch . Stout not alot of flex . Saw back should come in handy. I tool 1 1/2 inch PVC flattened and molded to machete, painted it black . Added molle straps , ranger bands . Put maxpedition mini organizer on it . Holds sharpeners , fire kit and odds and ends survival gear . Mounted bk 14 on ranger bands then paracord wrapped over that for extra security yet easily removed to mount knife to my belt if needed . Behind ranger bands on back I have my file which I find best option for sharpening my tomahawk and machete. On shoulder strap I added quick release buckles and wrapped about 10 feet of copper wire for snares and/ or whatever I think of .edit , ended up making some scales from an old shovel, , then added 1 more rivet to try and make it look more even . Looks sweet I think.

Ontario Sawback Machete
Ontario Knives have been around for a very long time and have a great reputation. This Machete stands up to this reputation and is excellent. My older son is a survivalist and when he visited me he confiscated my Ontario Machete, I had to purchase another unit, Kids! Needless to say he was very impressed. The machete is smaller than some, but I find it is a perfect size. You can also purchase the Ontario Machete without the Sawback. Very easy to take along when working or camping. There is a sheath made for this unit which is very nice and also worth the money. The machete comes with a sharp blade and stays sharp for a long time. The machete seems to be very well built. I had my original for a long time and never had a problem. Any time I or my younger kids got camping we take the Machete. Very easy to back and it is not that heavy. I wrapped the handle with parachute cord which makes your grip much better and you can unwrap the cord in an emergency if needed. A very nice unit and as you can see I purchased it again

I'm happy with it
I read a lot of reviews on Amazon and other places on small machete's and the OKC kept coming out on top. I didn't read anything about chipping or fractures like I read about some other brands. Non of the reviews were stellar, but non were damning. For under $20 I have no complaints. It was kind of sharp out of the box, but needed sharpening for my standards. My test was chopping a knotty piece of 2x4, I chopped on some big solid knots pretty hard and split them and the blade didn't miss a lick and held it's edge respectfully. The saw back cuts, but it's no replacement for an actual saw. I reprofiled the teeth to more of a Japanese pull saw grind. It now cuts easier and faster, still not like a saw, but it will get it done. Right side of last photo 15 strokes unaltered, left side 15 strokes new profile.

Best Brand of Machete in my book.
As with any of the other Ontario knives and machetes I own, the quality for the price is hard to beat. This machete comes with a serviceable cutting edge like any other Ontario machete I have owned. Can be used out of the box, but not wood carving sharp by any means. This is how most machetes are designed but I have to admit Ontario models do come sharper than most. A few minutes on a stone or even better a belt grinder and you have a razor sharp machete that holds an edge rather well. The handle is boxy but I always customize mine so I wont deduct a star. No sheath but I know they come that way. Saw back is more for notching or very small saw work. Do not expect to saw down a tree. Again, I knew this before I bought so no deductions. The size is perfect for throwing in the trunk or even inside a larger backpack if you make/buy a sheath first. Couldn't be happier. Maybe I can post pictures after I do some modifications to it.

Quite possibly the world's perfect machete.
From the jungles of Guyana to Fort Benning Georgia, this beast of blade has never disappointed me. Yes it is a mid-size machete which can be a bit frustrating if cutting tall razor grass, but chop it will, through anything, even an entire tree if required. Its weight, good grip, ability to hold an edge and added blade saw makes this bad boy one of my all time favourites.I had owned one for almost 24 years and lost it recently. Just had to replace it. BTW the price for this kind quality is unbelievable...this is the rolex of machetes.........Good job Ontario.

Excellent high quality steel machete
There are a lot of machetes out there. Most of the blades that I've seen are stamped from a roll of cheap steel. They may look OK, but don't have the width in the spine of the blade for long term strength and rigidity, and because of the quality of steel, will not hold a sharp edge. This is the REAL THING. The machete is made in the USA and the blade is extremely good quality. It's made from forged steel (not stamped), has a thick spine with ridges for sawing, and because of the quality of the steel, it takes and HOLDS an edge. It comes sharp and has a good handle. Do yourself a favor, spend a few more dollars and buy this one, you won't be sorry.

Sheath sold separately****
I have no big arm strength for big shears n this helps me hack at some shrubs n trees in my yard. I like it that its not a super long machete. It has a good thickness. The handle looks n feels like it won't last long but that can be replaced easily. Now that I got it in, didn't realize that it didn't come with a sheath. Will be ordering that soon. Thought I seen it for about $8

Solidly made but short
Very solidly made and tough. Many other highly rated machetes on Amazon seem to deal with knicks after moderate use. I have no worries about this one. But, the size is a bit short. I used it for bushwacking through some thorns and it was good enough, but would have actually liked a a few more inches (That's what she said!)

Solid and strong, grip needs work
Good overall weight. Strong/thick blade that will take a lot to damage or bend it. Factory edge is not bad but you can achieve a much sharper edge with a stone. The grip is moulded smooth plastic and requires some additional work to feel secure in the hand. I added hockey stick tape and no longer have any concerns on the grip.

Nice feel but not sure how durable
I used this knife one day before I lost a rivet in the handle. The blade seems to stand up against the branches I used it on, just a bit disappointed about the rivet... seems to still work but I suspect the handle will fail soon because of it

The only brand of machete for me.
My second Ontario - this one fits in my motorcycle luggage. Every bit as good as my 6145, just shorter. Nice heft. Havenโt used the saw, probably wonโt. Read somewhere that this one is a little heavier built than the non-saw version, so I chose this. Good heft. A keeper.

Great product, nevermind what poeple say about the handle. Well made and the sales talk for themselves. Highly recommend.
