Solid well built tool
This is a pricey item, but it's worth the money. We use these daily to check soil composition and soil moisture levels. When clients tell me they are watering the proper amount I can pull a plug of soil and show them if they are in deed watering too much or not enough. We have used other brands at less than half the cost and when you hit a rock or can't penetrate the soil from lack of water, they fold like a lawn chair. Of course it does not help out that my 200+lbs of manliness is dropping right down on top of it. These have never bent and they don't rust. Mine is over 20 yrs old, and I purchase new ones as my guys lose them so I know they have not lost quality. I would use blue thread locker on the tips. Blue thread locker is serviceable so you can replace the tip when it wares out. If you use red thread locker your done, you won't get it off, ever.

A good/adequate tool but a little overpriced - there might be a better option for you
It is a decent tool though a tad overpriced. I purchased a selection of tools as we need backups for a project we have in the works.I have compared pictures with a Soil Recovery Probe, Regular, 7/8 Inx21In which retails here for about $20 less and I found to be a little more robust.I think this tool is up to the task and will certainly update my review if the performance disappoints.

Sturdy probe
I've used it twice and it seems very sturdy even when twisting it a bit to get it into the ground. My soil was moist so the probe went in easily. I think I'd need a mallet to get the probe in if the soil was drier and harder.

Loving it!
This is my favorite new tool! I'll update it if it doesn't hold up, but so far works as advertised, and even in clay, I'm able to get a good sample.

In soil probes you get what you pay for. Unless you are coring sand you need a unit like this and have to expect the unit to be pricey.

Very sturdy.
Very sturdy for general use. The price was good for the value. I took 110 soil samples the first day I used it. I recommend it.

Not an Oakfield
Cheap China knockoff. Screw-in tip (S-2) does not exist.
