GREAT, GREAT, GREAT!!!! BUY NOW
I was looking for a replacement for my turbines that flew off this home I purchased. The stand was there and it was sealed to the roof, but a 12" hole that was open to the elements. After looking at my local hardware store and searching online I came across a few youtube videos. Showing the quit, no moving parts but allowed the heat from the attic to vent and did not allow the water to enter. I waited about a month before I ordered. BUT MAN, I WISH I DIDN'T!!! these caps are great!!! the heat is out of the attic and the water can't get in. I would recommend these to anyone. You need to buy your own screws but that's not to hard. Buy self tapping 1 1/4 inch sheet metal screws. they work great. I put in 4 each and leveled it. easy to do.

Manufacturer's box has no protection and first one arrived damaged
My first one arrived broken because the box has no Styrofoam or similar cushioning, but replacement is fine. Photos of the damage box and first one below. It is a smaller profile that the whirly and the brown is less prominent than the aluminum from the ground. It is about 8 inches lower installed, and smaller diameter, though I didn't measure the diameter. Much less noticeable than the old whirly in a good way.It fits the 14" old mount I had and then has an inner ring which I guess is how it fits a 12" mount. In the picture on Amazon, the higher outside ring is the 14" ring which goes outside and you screw through the brown plastic into the mount. The inner ring it is sitting on would be the 12". Not sure if that goes inside or outside as I didn't measure it. It does seem to pull hot air out or allow hot air out as I could feel the air above it while in place. Compared to the whirly turbine that was on there, it seemed to be slightly more warm air from this. The air was still enough that the other whirly wasn't spinning so not sure if it does pull more air. But I did spin it and there wasn't much air that seemed to be pulled out. But I don't have any way to test airflow. I did watch the manufacturers videos on youtube where they compare airflow using smoke. Now that I think about it, losing some of the diameter is not trivial. So for a 12" replacement it may move more air, but compared to a 14" whirly, maybe not since the inner ring is still only 12" diameter. If I had thought about it, might have made sense to take it apart and jigsaw the top to get a larger opening. 1/2" lip would have been enough for it to sit on top of the tube, but added a lot to the size of the exhaust hole. The box says there are included screws, but there were none. Which isn't so big a deal as there were screws holding the old unit on there that worked just fine. But I'd say that is another packaging issue with incorrect contents as well as inadequate protection. The second box was also a little beat up, but nowhere near as bad as the one with the damaged unit.Although it is very open, it is hard to hold it so that you can see light through it. So seems rain resistant. There's basically an inverted pie tin type shape at the top and the sides come down enough that any rain that gets through the slots will be blocked and not get into the hole. But it is pretty open for airflow.Regarding the box, and the first unit that was damaged. There was no Styrofoam or anything other than this unit in the box, which allowed the crushing to push the top down and broke the ribs. If you look at the picture, you can tell it doesn't take much distance to break the ribs if you pushed on the top. In this case it was enough force to crush a corner of the box which isn't all that easy.

Ok replacement for a bad turbine vent, but NOT AS EFFECTIVE BY MILES
Great replacement for a worn out turbine fan if you don’t like the sound or just in a pinch but by no means does it cost nearly the draft of a turbine vent

Damaged
Arrived damaged and it looks like it's cheap plastic and cheap material. I returned it and decided to get another one and guess what? The second one arrived damaged too.

No moving part = no noise when wind is blowing
I bought 2 of those after hurricane Irma, blow the two turbine I had. I heard the old turbine spin so fast when the wind start blowing, and then tthey flew away and bang against the roof, The next day I found the turbine vent around the house. I put garbage bag and duct tape to avoid water and ritter intrusion. Looked online and ordered two of those after making sure they Miami Dade County Approved. I can’t talk about ventilation efficiency in the attic as it is too hot here during florida summer, but they seem to do their job pretty good. I use the hardware they provide to install them. In the end, I am glad I was able to spot those, as their is no moving part, so no noise when the wind is blowing, not like the old turbine one.

Adequate and inexpensive replacement.
Keeps out the rain, not hard to install.Instructions could be clearer, especially the need to keep any old screws since none come with it.

Perfect Fit
This cap worked perfectly. We had an old turbine that we wanted to eliminate. This is just as it states, works on 12-14" areas. It looks great as well! Could not find anything like this at the store. Thanks Amazon!
