Great compass and better than expected support
First of all this is a great hiking/backpacking compass. I am used to using a lensatic military style comapass for the purpose of land navigation. I thought I'd try a mirror compass and fell in love with it. ( I do the miss the "Mil" graduation but I learned to live with degrees). A compass takes a lot abuse from me. This one seems to be well built and in most case just as accurate as my lensatic. The best part is that I had a small problem with the hinge on the compass to I emailed Silva for a recommendation as to how to fix it. No questions; they just send me out a new compass. I don't think you'll find a better compass for the money or a better company.

The connection of the string is broken
The Plastic connection of the string is broken once received. It cannot be connected with the string unless with tie up.Very disappointed with the Silva Product or if the seller sells 2nd hand goods.

Made in China should say it all.
Mirror hinge doesn’t hold very well when standing. Actually using it requires frequent adjustments. Buy American made.

Bubble in Capsule and NO adjustable declination.
I received this compass today and and there is a serious defect:1) There is a bubble in the liquid - see the picture. Also when turning the bezel in a certain way more smaller bubbles enter.2) Also the Amazon description says "declination scale inside the capsule"... This IS NOT an adjustable declination... The scale just helps you compensate for it and it works well - just not what I was expecting. I was expecting the typical tool in the lanyard and port on the bezel.
