well made, hearty sparks thrown...
well made, machining is good, rod produces hearty sparks...doubt I will ever need them for a SHTF scenario really, will be fun making camp fires with the kids and likely become a heirloom item passed down to grand kids long after I'm gone... not that I will need to, unless I lose them, but would buy again...

Knock me over with a feather, these are fantastic!
This is a copy of the expensive Exotac fire steel. I have owned a couple other cheaper replica versions of the steel and they have been absolute garbage. The fair weather is bad and is the strikers were also bad, though I could file down the striker and it worked on other rods. Just left me with a couple decent empty aluminum casings with hardly usable ferro rods. So I had the idea of grinding the rods down into filings and using the casings to hold the shavings (I hate wasting stuff, I even recycle the wire and transformers from discarded phone chargers and the like ) I thought it would make a decent addition to the fire kit, and they are compact. So I ordered these to do the same thing because it was cheaper than buying a magnesium rod and water-tight containers. Two of these for 4 bucks.I was expecting a two pack of more cheaper Chinese useless fire starting rods. So imagine my surprise when they arrived and they performed just as good as the Exotac. The strikers are sharp and well seated in the cap. The casings are precision machined and water tight, and the ferrocerium rods are very easily struck for showers of sparks.I could hardly believe it these things are fantastic, but as it is with many of the non-branded products on Amazon, your mileage may vary. Maybe I just got lucky or maybe all of them are just as good as these. On a sidenote, grounded up crappy ferrocene rods are no substitute for magnesium shavings. But I can still use the empty cylinders to hold real magnesium.Pics: you can see the brand name one Exotac on the left compared to these two. Yeah the machining is a little more precise but the sparking performance is about the same and they both have very good strikers. These strikers are coated with some kind of black Apoxsee and you’re probably better off filing or sanding that off before you use them. Or better yet use a good knife spine or a bigger striker. At this price for two versus a $30 mini protected fire steel. I think I’ll go with these guys. But will be aware because I know from experience not all Chinese generic firesteels will be as good as these.

Good product
These are great, my only issue is that I was using them to teach youth age 12 and 13 and the steel striking piece is very small and can be hard to grip tight enough.Ultimately most of the boys did fine using them though with a little practice.

Buy these and avoid the pricey name brands
Look, if you want the functionality of the name brand version (you know who I’m talking about) at a quarter of the price, get these. The machining on the body is great and the ferrocium rods work well. All the function and super cheap, just hit add to cart you won’t regret it.

Cases alone are worth it at a great price, shipping was fast.
I have to give this product a 5 because these are super nice containers and the price is good. In an emergency, with patients and correct materials I could start a fire with these. But to count on ease of use every time for every day camping or for showing off for a camera or group at your great fire starting abilities. This isn't for you with out tweaking the product. ie sharpening the striker and replacing the ferro rod with a better one. What you have is a good looking, lightweight, small, waterproof container for your ferro rod and striker that will work with a bit of work. I bought these for mine and my sisters emergency bags, I will replace the ferro rod for hers as she isn't as adapted to fire starting as I am. She was in that last hurricane and I will rest easier knowing she will have a mini 3 day bug out bag, though she is a tough cookie. This container will keep her ferro rod dry and preserved for many years. The ferro rod does twist out and can be replaced or just add another one loosely inside. I am very happy with the purchase and thank you for making them affordable. For the reviewers hitting below 4 stars, re think it because the cases alone are worth it at a great price. I received mine within a few days. I would buy again.

Best secret.
Small but worth every cent. Easy to carry. Water proof container. Fire every time.

The one that didn't fall apart is fine.
I put one on my car keys and one on my day pack. At the end of an easy trail walk (first time out with it) I was putting my day pack back into the car and noticed that the only thing left of my orange striker was the part with the key ring. The bottom cap (that was tight when I put it on my pack) and the rod itself were gone.So far the one on my car keys is still in good shape, and I have started a couple of fires with it. So in good faith I can only give this a 3 star because I only have one to review.

O ring so well
These are definitely worth the savings. The O-ring did get loose pretty quickly, but it was an easy fix with a replacement from the hardware store. For the price, you really can’t beat it.
