Outstanding Quality at a Ridiculously Low Price
I ordered the Ontario Rat 1, based on reviews, and am blown away by the quality of this knife. The blade, right out of the box, was shaving-sharp. I’ve used this knife quite a bit since I got it, but it sharpens up nicely with a few swipes of the kitchen steel. The spine of the blade is 1/8”, and snaps in place with a very satisfying click, due to the excellent liner lock on this knife. The knife can be completely taken apart with hex wrenches, in case it needs repair or serious cleaning, and the clip can be set up for tip-up or tip-down, on both the left and right side. I’ve never seen that on a $25 knife before. The handle is an open frame with lightly textured nylon grips. The feel, balance, and ergonomics of this knife are just right for me. I’ve been using the Rat as my edc,, using the clip for deep pocket carry. I never notice it - no rubbing or scratching. One thing - the studs on the blade were catching on my pocket when I pulled out the knife. I took a dremel to it, and now it is smooth as silk. I like the look of the knife, as well. It has a nice esthetic, and looks like a utility knife, not some terrifying tactical blade. I like this knife so much that I purchased another, in case I lose the one I carry. To me, this is a no brainer. A shockingly well designed, strong, comfortable knife with AUS-8 steel for $25? Everyone should have one of these. I have dozens of knives - Buck 110, Gerber Gator, Case Sodbuster, to name a few - but this is the one I carry, and have no doubt that it will be in my pocket for a long long time.

Big folder for little money and there’s more
PROsExcellent quality for a budget folder!Lock up is tight and came hair popping sharp. Smooth open and easy closing.Comfy grips enough room for a full grip and not be to skinny to cause pain when in use.Decent grip in dry hands. Don’t know how it going to be when it’s wet or bloody from hunting though.Light weight in my opinion but some will find it heavy.CONsBIG! Honestly I didn’t realize how big this folder is in person lol. I have others folders that are big, but this just seems a lot bigger.Being that it’s big it will take up some room in your pocket so using it as an EDC for some will be a challenge. They changed the little blade emblem from the RAT symbol to a big O symbol for Ontario Knife company which in my opinion is stupid. Change the title of the listing to Ontario Model 1 knife. The original design was from RAT not Ontario Knife Company. Overall a good buy and I plan on using this pocket knife for EDC, outdoor tasks, a traveling knife, and or beater knife. This is one pocket knife that you might loose but it will always be cheap enough to buy another.Revised 10/7/17Ok so I have used it for a bit in various tasksSo far it holds a decent edge and it super easy to get it back to shaving sharp. It works great for food prep whether it was in the kitchen or in a camp. That being said, the handles were a little slippery but tolerable. Easy to clean out too. Also the hinge area is also easy to clean out. So if you plan on using it for hunting or for gutting fish just swish it around in super hot water and soap to clean it out. Just make sure you oil it after you are done and it’s completely dry.Bushcrafters:I know the bushcrafters out there will love it. Due to its grind and it being super sharp it makes awesome feather sticks! It works great for making certain notches like for a trap or other projects. It’s comfy in the hand even in various bushcraft type of holds. No hot spots for me to report even when using for extended period of times. What also great is that the spine of the blade is sharp enough to use a ferro rod!! Yes!!! It flings sparks like a champ! So that’s it as of yet and I only had it for week or so.

Excellent large folder
I have had many knives over the years, in the hundreds! The Model 1 Rat folder is the best I have ever owned for under 30 bucks. Super razor out of the box. Very smooth and precision opening and closing.Ambidextrious thumb stud. Bladed centered. Comfortable grip. Lanyard hole and the clip can be mounted 4 ways if you decide to use the pocket clip. I stopped using them years ago after a clip failed and I almost lost a very expensive Benchmade 940 folder. Now they go deep in my pocket. It isn't a small knife, 5" closed and will handle about any camping chore from skinning moose on down. It is an excellent choice for EDC but might be a bit large for most to carry all day. Very happy with this large folder for day trips and those extended hunting trips. Suits my needs. Very happy!

Good to Go!
Wow...I'm still blown away by the quality of the this knife compared to it's cost. I am by no means a knife aficionado, but the size, balance, feel, and edge of this product are incredible. I did my homework before making this purchase and compared it to other knives in it's category, and I don't believe there is a product on the market that can offer this kind of superb quality for it's price point. I will say that it's got some weight to it, but it feels good in your hand. If you're looking for something smaller, but equally as good, go for the OKC RAT II. I had purchased the RAT II, but it was just a tad too small for my big mitts. The RAT I has a perfect feel in my hand.

Me encanto
