The book to get for Skip Tracing
Valerie McGilvery has managed to distill the Skip Tracing world into an easy to read, module organized, entertaining book. There are many books on Skip Tracing, Process Serving, and Private Investigation. However, most that I have read are lacking in specifics and therefore not very useful, or they are so broad and complex as to make them useful only if needed for a theoretical Masters degree thesis.Skip Trace Secrets is the perfect balance that makes it easy for the reader to glean exactly what they need and apply it.Generous online resources are listed for a variety of uses , and the reader can bookmark them in their browser to have their own online tool box.For any Skip Tracer or Private Investigator, this is the book to get.

Very Good Informative Book
Would recommend this book to those who are new to skip tracing. Very informative. Clearly she’s very knowledgeable and she lets you in her expert mind when it comes to finding skips.

Not a Book, a Pamphlet!
I am sure that the author is probably competent in her job, but imparting the information relevant to her profession was a total miss in the book. I was thoroughly disappointed by this book, it was more like a pamphlet. It is totally lacking in quality information. The few websites that the author suggests are the only thing that someone may find of interest, if they haven't found them through a search on Google already. The exchange with someone else about whether or not you should be a licensed PI just because Florida requires it is out of place in the book and has no relevance on Skip Tracing as an overall topic. I am always interested in what others may advise in the way of internet searches about people because of the relevance to privacy and security, so bought the Kindle edition out of curiosity. I must be honest, if you are looking for the "dirty little tricks" you won't find them here.

Skip Tracing Explained
I never knew what skip tracing was until I read this book. The first chapter explains what a skip tracer is in detail before going into details on how to become one yourself, which is very useful. The author explains very well how to locate debtors without harassing them and on how to stay within the confines of hte law. Useful resources on that you can use which are free or low cost are also presented. I also like her personal stories. The book is well-organized as the author separates the various tips into chapters: using social media, military records, free databases, etc. to locate debtors. She even covers how to get started and possible licensing you might need if you want to start your own skip tracing business. A good and informative book if you are looking into this career. highly rec recommend.

Good buy
I was vacillating between 4 and 5 stars, so then I asked myself if I would buy this book again or be prompted to look for other books by this author and the answer is "Yes!". The writing style makes the book an easy read. There is a ton of useful information. The only problem I had with this book is that it is targeted toward physically locating people for the purpose of repossessing a collateralized vehicle. I cannot go stake out relative's homes or an individual's place of business, or arrange meetings. I need passive-aggressive techniques of finding someone so that I can get the information to them via certified mail and then have them served if I choose to file a lawsuit. But the writer's stories were very amusing to read, if not useful in my situation. Overall, many website addresses were provided that I have found useful for skip tracing. Do beware, however, that although the author states that specific links are free sites, most are not. The sites will say whether they found a match and then you have to pay for the information.

Interesting Trails
I did not buy this title because I wanted to be a skip tracer myself, but because I write stories that have detectives as the main characters and wanted to know what all they should be doing. For my purposes, this book worked well.

Private Eye Me
Before this book I had tried to gain an understanding on Skip Tracing. With Skip Trace Secrets I was able to coherently break down the concept piece by piece. I needed to understand skip tracing for an aspect of my job. I was really falling behind in my work, but now I am on track. The nature of skip tracing in itself is very secretive, so there are very few resources out there to help. It doesn't have to be a serious incident, maybe you just want to find someone for good or helpful reasons. Skip Tracing Secrets gives you some of the things that private investigators, bounty hunters, collectors, etc.You begin to feel like a watchdog, so be careful with all this new power! It's a little scary and unbelievable how much information is out there because of social media. Even on yourself!

For debt collectors in Texas
If you live in Texas, this book is more for you. A few things are for Texas only, sites, phone numbers, and some laws. She’s also writing the book for debt collectors so a lot of the way she presents her work is for debt collectors only.
