I heard about Fiona researching steamy gritty stuff to watch a while back (Antares came up too, as did some lamer fare for unimaginative types into Hollywood bs like American Pie, etc.) and was glad to finally find it on here. Now, I have always dipped into the darker side of life, and found it all too interesting (lived in Las Vegas, saw crazy stuff, etc.) I gave an extra half star to this but it is good for those who like a dose of reality in their films. I laughed at reviews which said it was about crack whores and not sexy enough because they were obviously seeking out lame porn. Why go on Amazon for your porn, idiots? Fiona was played by a woman who obviously had it written into her contract that only she would be allowed to have surgery on her lips and to wear any makeup or hide any obvious negative signs of drug abuse rather than to be emaciated in an "acceptable" way for heroin chic. This movie took place during that heroin chic era. I modeled during this era and it was obvious some of the actresses in this were actual addicts. They had the bad skin, demeanor, and real to life look to the point that I believed them to an extreme. This doesn't happen in Hollywood glorifying drug movies. So I love this kind of movie. As a female non lesbian I did NOT watch this for the nude scenes (taking place with little artifice if any!) but rather for the interest in the darker elements of life and reality. This movie felt like a documentary although not as much as some. I loved it, and those not looking for PORN but for a true to life, slice of life feel, will enjoy this. It had a decent story line and decent editing. I loved the dark humor (especially the scene in which the tough acting, nothing to lose main character drew a gun on the guy in the NYC restaurant.) It had brief scenes that actually do and have happened -- to me for example -- and which NEED to be in films because they are even more fun than made-up ones in pathetic films that had more money behind them. More to say on this but gotta go deal with a whining dog.

This movie shows the tragic life of an abandoned child and her struggles to survive a rough life.

I watched this on Amazon Prime.I was not exactly prepared for this, but felt it was exceptionally well put together. It was sad, but not in a maudlin way; one found oneself simply wondering about the lives of the thousands of nameless young girls and women out there all over the world, forced to lead this kind of life. Somehow, they seem to eventually accept it but it is not a pretty picture.

A weak story with an implausible ending. Mostly it's like a documentary of the lives of crack whores in New York. It gives a disturbing and realistic idea of what that must be like.

They don't make em like this anymore. Ahead of it's time, a bit of Godard influence mixed with neo-realism. Intensely tragic, yet viscereally poignant at the same time. Highly recommended.

Ok I get it & I never put that I care for something on the level past dislike bordering on hate.But this movie was horrible - bad quality, bad editing, poor direction - the list goes on & on only to culminate in that it was a poorly written project.There is nothing redeemable in the entire movie

Viele Filme beschäftigen sich mit dem Thema Frauenprostitution, obwohl, oder geradeweil der Film schon älter ist, überzeugt er durch Klarheit und Direktheit.Neben zahlreichen Stellungnahmen von Betroffenen wird auch visuell dargestellt in welcher Lage sich die Frauen meist befinden und wie ihnen kaum ein Ausweg bleibt auf die ungewöhnlichsten Forderungen der Freier einzugehen.Oft sind auch Drogen das einzige Mittel, das ihnen bleibt überhaupt irgendwie bei der Stange zu bleiben.Ein wenig ungewöhnlich aber wie sehr die betroffenen Frauen sich zu ihren Kolleginnen hingezogen fühlen und sich auch bei ihnen sexuell anlehnen, dies schien mir ein wenig übertrieben und unwirklich dargestellt.Insgeamt aber ein glaubwürdiger und realitätsnaher "Doku"spielfilm offenherzig und mutig inszeniert.

Fiona zeigt die Lebensgeschichte einer jungen New Yorker Frau von ihrer Geburt bis zu ihrem Tod. Als Baby von ihrer Mutter, einer Hure, auf den Straßen New Yorks unbeachtet ausgesetzt - als Kind von ihrem Ziehvater sexuell mißbraucht - landet sie als Frau in der Prostitution, wird drogenabhängig und kriminell. Als sich mit einem älteren Mann die Hoffnung auf einen Ausstieg und ein besseres Leben abzeichnet, wird sie bei einem Überfall auf einen Supermarkt angeschossen und stirbt.Fiona, eine New Yorker Hure mit dem Drang zur Selbstzerstörung schläft ebenso ohne moralische Vorbehalte mit ihren brutalen, männlichen Freiern wie hingebungsvoll mit ihren weiblichen "Kolleginnen". Sie lebt in der bizarren Athmosphäre einer Absteige im East Village, in dem Prostituierte und Drogenabhängige zu einer ganz speziellen Gemeinschaft zusammengefunden haben. In diesem Milieu lernt sie sogar, ohne es zu wissen, ihre richtige Mutter kennen und verbringt mit ihr eine Nacht. Fiona ist eine Randfigur New Yorks zwischen rauhem Leben und intensiver Zärtlichkeit, die dem Schicksal zwischen kleinen Fluchten und schmerzlichem Unglück nicht entkommen kann.Amos Kollek gelang im Miniteam (nur er und Kameramann Ed Talavera) mit Mini-Etat und 16 mm Handkamera in nur 17 Drehtagen innerhalb von 5 Monaten ein Spielfilm mit semi-dokumentarischen Elementen. Echte drogenabhängige Prostituierte und ihre Freier in Kombination mit "richtigen" Schauspielern ließen bemerkenswert intime und realistische Szenen entstehen. Der Film ist der zweite Film aus der Trilogie der Einsamkeit: Sue (1997) - Fiona (1998) - Bridget (2002), alle drei Filme von Amos Kollek mit Anna Levine Thomson in der Hauptrolle. Die grazile Anna Levine Thomson verleiht dem gefallenen Engel Fiona, der "hooker with a golden heart", eine ganz eigene Schönheit. Sie ist eben eine außergewöhnliche Schauspielerin.Fazit: Kein Film für Fans des Hochglanz Hollywood Kinos. Aber für Freunde des independent Underground - Films ein echtes Sahnestückchen, das bei Kritikern ebenso wie bei einer einschlägigen Zuschauergemeinde Anklang findet.

2ième volet de la "trilogie new-yorkaise" entre Kollek et Thompson initié avec "Sue perdue dans Manhattan".Film plus dur que le précédent de par son sujet, on y retrouve une Anna Thompson au sommet à nouveau.Toujours dans le style documentaire, on a en plus d'acteurs méconnus, des quidams du monde de la prostitution et de la drogue.L'ensemble est magnifiquement ficelé et permet une fois de plus au film de Kollek d'éviter les clichés éculés ainsi que les sensibleries inutiles.Malgré quelques scènes "grivoises", la perversion n'est ici pas malsaine.Je recommande!
