Dead Madonna (A Loon Lake Mystery) Paperback – May 30, 2014

I love these characters and the stories are interesting. But as the series has progressed each book has more repetitive back story on each character and less new story. I noticed on the book before this one but this one seemed to be almost half back story. I'm sorry I'm going to have to quit this book series because I can't see paying for half a story.

When you meet Lew the police chief and Dr. Osborne , a retired dentist who occasionally works as the assistant medical examiner in Loon Lake you know the day is set for murder and mayhem. A supposed drowning and a murder in town sets the scene for what turns out to be a double homocide investigation. There is a little misdirection and a lot of memorable characters including the part time -when we need him-deputy who has a record, and cops from neighboring towns who just don't want to seem to help. Just sit back and let Lew and the doc take care of business and have a very pleasant evening doing just so. And when they are done solving crimes the are out to the water fishing and giving tips on certain types of flies. Good Fishing

I really like this series.The plots are well constructed and the characters are interesting with the sport fishing theme being very prominent.However,there is a degree of sameness about them with only the names being changed!I think the author needs to develope and widen the scope of the background.Whilst I really enjoy reading the novels if one was super critical it could be said that once you have read one you have read them all!

Won't keep you up at night afraid to sleep ,like some creepy mysteries,but definately a very nice series of mystery books.

This delightful series features the Wisconsin 'Up North' that we all know and love. The characters are memorable and funny. Even though I don't enjoy fishing, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Will definitely read more of this series.

Enjoyed the details of a small town with the chief and her deputy solving murders. Written with a good pace and fishing details.

her books are wonderful. got a few men to start reading her series. it's fun reading a book that the stories come out of wisconsin the state i live in and connect real easily with the reading.

As this mystery kept me reading I had a hard time putting it aside. Loved the characters that were included to make another novel exciting. Can't wait to read the next in this series.

It helps to be from the area (although that was many years ago) but it isn't really necessary. The main characters are rather old but really enjoying life. This is a worthwhile book (series) to read for relaxation. I always feel good after reading one of them. I think the mysteries are well thought out and are within the bounds of reality. A really great read for someone who is learning English. Enjoy!!!
