Lippincott Certification Review: Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

Good review book and missing practice test solution.
Good bullet point review, does have some questioms at the end of each section some have upwards of 30. The issue with the 200 plus practice questions that are not on the kindle version are because the printed version has a code that must be used. The fix for that is to call LWW and explain to them you bought an electronic version and you would like access to the pratice tests. I was informed to send them my reciept, which took all of two min, and they will add access to my "The Point" account. So this could fix users problems when buying the kindle version. Otherwise I am pleased with this book as a review.

Great review guide for the PNCB PNP-AC boards
Need to leave this review because there is very little out there as far as study resources for the PNCB PNP acute care exam and this book was recommended to me by a faculty member from my program. It has been an excellent source of targeted disease topics for pediatric review, properly organized by system and easy to read with bullet points. This book is almost a verbatim read along to the NAPNAP PNP AC online review course offered (believe it was authored by the same people), making it a great supplement if you take the review course through NAPNAP. No where did I find this information, not even from my faculty, so I'm hoping this review offers some future aspiring PNP-AC some guidance. Get this book (its possibly the only focused review book out there), do the NAPNAP review course and pass your boards like I did! this book helps! Also going to use it forever in my practice as a quick go-to guide until certain guidelines change.

Some valuable content but many flaws - would not recommend
Pro: there is some good content in this book. There are some helpful graphs, tables, and other visual aids e.g. X-rays.Cons: there are many.- The editing is terrible throughout. The questions and rationales are poorly written. I'm currently on chapter 4 (out of 25), but the self-assessments at the end of each chapter have been frustrating to go through. Many questions are poorly worded, and the rationales are even worse. Most rationales are riddled with run-on sentences and other basic grammatical errors. Some rationales are unclear or just straight up inconsistent/incorrect. (For example, one question tells you that a child's RR is 35 but doesn't tell you how old the child is. Then the rationale states that this RR is "markedly elevated.")- The self-assessments are terribly laid out. The answers are below each question, highlighted in a different color and in bold print. They're easily the most visible aspects of the page that you're looking at. How are the self-assessments supposed to give us an accurate idea of where our knowledge is if we're able to see the answers the entire time?! (I've resorted to a ridiculous method of covering up the opposite page and column, and slowly sliding down another sheet of paper one question at a time. It's wildly inconvenient.)- The online content is severely lacking. You can't access any of the content in the physical book, just two practice exams that have 200 questions each. Several of these questions are repeats from the self-assessments in the physical book. There are also several technical annoyances. For example, for the practice exam, you can choose the number of questions you want to go through in a particular session. If you choose to do 25 questions today then want to do 50 questions tomorrow, it'll first show you the 25 questions you already did yesterday, then show you just 25 new questions. It's maddening.Overall, there's some good information in this book, but I would not recommend it for your PNCB prep. It's frankly embarrassing that a prep book like this was even able to be published.

I love the bulleted
I'm an experienced AC PNP, currently on Faculty at an AC PNP program on the west coast. I've been looking forward to this publication for a while- it has been sorely needed! I love the bulleted, need-to-know format that works best for busy students. I also appreciate its overall outline -- it will help me cross-check both the depth and breadth of knowledge in my AC PNP didactic classes.

Good for studying despite many errors
I think this is a good study tool for the PNP-AC exam, however I did notice many errors (grammatical, editing, and content) while reading it and doing the practice questions. They need a better editor. Wish I had been writing them down as I went, I would submit them.

Decent study guide but serious errors
While overall helpful in preparing for boards, there are MULTIPLE mistakes and errors not only in the typing format, but also in the actual test questions. Example: for a tension pneumo- they describe in the earlier section there would be a contralateral shift of the mediastinum, yet in the practice questions, the answer is supposed to be ipsilateral. Other issues with parathyroid and calcium levels. Super frustrating when you are trusting this book to prepare you for a board exam and the effort from the authors clearly wasn’t there.

You Will Need Another Review Book
Some very key pediatric disorders are missing and "Behavioral Health" which is a section on the exam, isn't even addressed. There are some typos, irrelevant information about adult care and treatments that are no longer used included in the text. There's so much information in this book that you don't need as far as pathophysiology and background. The review questions have the answers right underneath so it's not helpful for testing yourself at all. Some of the review questions ask things that were not covered in the text. I wouldn't recommend this book as your only source for studying for the boards.
