Intriguing Concept
Yeah this edition is great for anyone who wants to truly delve into The Maxx series or for anyone that is just a fan and wants a large collection. To be brutally honest, the story could use some work. It revolves around a tricky subject (assault trauma) and doesn't quite leave a satisfying perspective. The Maxx character is basically a figment of imagination for a victim coping with the realization of being assaulted. It's a bit too morbid without a payoff. In my opinion, The Maxx character should've been a vigilante coping with his own problems who happens to find our lead character Julie. Feeling empathy for her and others like her, he hunts down attackers in the city. I would've preferred this storyline. It's similar enough to the original but gives satisfaction in terms of redemption. The imagination thing feels more like a painful look at the damaged mind of a trauma victim rather than a super hero story. Quick final note, the villain characters are greatly lacking in the series. Mr. Gone seemed neat until we learn he's just basically a serial attacker. Characters lose their following if you cross certain lines and that's one of them. Btw I'm avoiding the "r" word because it could result in my review being taken down. You know what I mean when I say attack. Anyway besides him, there's really not a whole lot of other villains. The Maxx is an interesting concept. If you never read it, I recommend a shorter edition so you don't spend a large amount before you know if the story is right for you.

Great work from great artists
I have been a fan of Kieth's since seeing Incredible Hulk #368 on a newsstand. If you live for variation, randomness, imagination and spontaneity, then this work should stimulate your mind.

It is a joy to be reading this one again
Strange and otherworldy, yet so oddly true to life for anyone who has been an "outcast" in life. It is a joy to be reading this one again.

DON'T BUY THE OVERPRICED COPIES
I'm reviewing this solely to prevent scalpers making money. Vol 1 is still in publication and while everyone is sold out right now, NEW COPIES ARE BEING PRINTED RIGHT NOW. Don't spend more than 30$ on this book!!!

Hard to describe the story, but I love it
I first came across The Maxx in the form of the MTV TV series and immediately fell in love. It's so different from what one may be used to, but in a good way. This comic masterfully combines various aspects of psychology, including trauma and the blurring between reality and fantasy, with very pretty looking art. This is not a story for children, though. It's definitely for those interested in a more serious, in-depth psychological story in the form of a full-colour comic.
