Jimi Hendrix - Winterland (Highlights) (Recorded Versions Guitar)

When I ordered this book I expected nothing less from Hal Leonard than a detailed and incredibly accurate transcription of Hendrix's Winterland Album. The only thing that I could complain about is that it is just the transcription of album tracks. If you go on YouTube and type f.e. "Hendrix Winterland Hey Joe" you will find a version with a great intro and a sort of intro jam that I hoped to get a transcription of. This book DOES NOT contain what's not on the album.

Hendrix was a master of improving variations on the recorded versions of his songs and this contains a great selections of his hits and the standards he incorporated into his live sets. The transcription 'Like a Rolling Stone' is especially interesting both for his interpretation of Dylan and as a song not recorded in the studio but important to his musical philosophy.

A good tab book for all Jimi fans, only a Like A Rolling Stone tab could spend you a couple of weeks to enjoy the fretwork of Hendrix beside the Monterey version. But don't expect the famous long intro Hey Joe Winterland version is included.

With this tab book they could have transcribed tax free, lover man or killing floor. Really didn't need any more tabs of the classics. we all know them...

Really good tab but it would be worth getting the winterland 5 isk edition so you can hear the correct track and play along in time, takes a while to get it all together and use a metronome. I managed to learn "like a rolling stone" in about a week (I've been playing over ten years) but it would take a lot of effort to make it sound like the legend is playing it so play it how you feel its right and just enjoy it. TABs are pretty spot on, there has been a few notes that are missing but they may not be played and because of his two amp setup the ghost note might be hiding in there. Well worth a purchase but you need the right effect to get it right.

ウィンターランドライブの全貌を知りたいという欲求に応える4枚組。ジミは表情が千変万化する人だが、ブックレットの写真集では、よい表情のカットを集めている。以前に出ていたアラン・ダグラスの関わったウィンターランドと比較すると、音が整理されており、聴き易いのは確か。だが、そこまでして全テイク聴く必要があるか、という問題もある。ダグラス版の編集が秀逸だったことが、4枚組を聴いて、逆によくわかった。ダグラスだって、ジミを愛していたのだろう。ところで、本作でも、完全なオリジナルテープではなく、やはり若干の編集は加わっているようだ。よく聴くと、一部オルガンが入っている。ライブ当日に誰かがオルガンを演奏したのだとしたら、まったく存在感を消したままギターを引き立てるという荒業だ。ジミヘンには特別な思いがあるが、なかでも最近は、レッド・ハウスに注目している。ＢＢキング的なブルースではなく、白人のブルースでもない、白黒の分類には収まらない、ジミだけのブルース。ゆったりしたシャッフルに乗った彼のフレーズは、テイクごとに表情が異なり、聴き飽きないのだ。ボリューム操作によるトーンの変化、アーミングやフィードバックのコントロールは、神がかりの領域だ。4枚組では、レッド・ハウス３テイクが楽しめる。晩年になると、イラついているような演奏が多くなるが、ウィンターランドではじつにのびのびと演奏している。ギターのトーンはユニヴァイブ的な揺れはなく、ストレートでクセがない。
