Does the job well!
I had a Rare Earth some years ago and wasn’t mad about it. I bought this as I was too lazy to fit an under saddle pick up and it suits this small parlour guitar perfectly. Not that easy to fit as the sound hole is quite small but once in it sounds the canine’s testiest. No pre amp but I recommend one as the signal needs boosting. Great little PU for the price.

Great sound but the tethered cable is a pain
Great sound but the tethered cable is a pain! A line plug & socket would help

Amplifier cable lets it down
Firstly what I liked , the Fishman pickup arrived promptly . The sound reproduction is quite hum free and clear . Now the down side , yes I said the sound reproduction is hum free and clear the volume on a 20 watt amp is not very loud , and if you play it on overdrive it distorts hisses and hums , not good . Another matter that irked me was the complete lack of any instruction on use and care of the pickup . But the main reason I gave it three stars is the bargain basement amp cable , Lots of other sound hole pickups I've used over the years have either the facility to plug and un-plug the amp cable into the pickup and or have a short length amp cable with a 1/4" socket so you could detach the guitar with the pickup fitted , which means your not constantly stuck with 3 metres of cable dragging around . As you can see from the photograph , I cut the cable leaving 18" of cable and fitted a mono 1/4" jack socket . I know this would render the warranty void , but it is a far far better set up , also it is then my choice what amp cable I use to connect to the amplifier .

Excellent when coupled with a pre-amp
I've got 30 years gigging and recording experience and have used many different after-market pickups in that time. This is one of the best,I have a lovely fully acoustic with crisp clear tones that I needed to electrify for small gigs. I didn't want anything that would require permanent mods. This fitted in easily, no need to slacken the strings, and it clamps into place tightly but without damaging the finish. The cable is long enough that it can reach my pedalboard and give me freedom to move around. I'm fine with it being a male jack rather than female so unlike others I have no intention of chopping and replacing the terminal. It's passive, which means 2 things - it requires no batteries but will also have lower output as a result. Those reviewers who are expecting the same volume output as an active / amplified pickup are just being unrealistic. You just need a decent pre-amp for live use. I run this through the excellent and inexpensive SONICAKE A Factory Acoustic Analog Preamp. This helps boost the signal but also gives some control over EQ shaping and it sounds awesome through my PA.The only reason I've given 4 starts not 5 for the sound it because you can get pickups that faithfully represent the exact tone and nuance of your guitar, but these cost a fortune and are generally only needed by the pro's who's tone is their signature. This gives me everything I need. Unlike some other pickups I've had it's also quiet and doesn't pickup unwanted handling noise from the guitar body. This is a very capable and solid bit of kit.

Really nice acoustic pick up
Easy to fit sounds good, but will fit a pre amp to give it some clout.

Good vfm - works fine
Fits easily - you just loosen it both sides then slip under the strings and tighten up - needs a Phillips screwdriver. I’m pretty impressed with the sound - I’ve tried i5 through to 20 w amps - was a bit thin through a guitar amp but sounded better through a bass amp.Good value for money
