Out of the box they need a bit of love, but after I oiled them, to give them a much nicer feel in the hand and protect them from sweat, humidity, and any other moisture or staining, they seem pretty good so far.I'm very glad I took the time to rub down and oil them immediately, because the rubbing also removed some sizeable splinters (one of the biggest ones is pictured). If you don't want to do this, I imagine spending a little more will get you some that are fully finished and good to go straight from the box.I got the smaller size (28mm) and they're well suited to me, I typically wear a small or medium glove size.I haven't used the straps so I can't speak on those; I use hammock straps and climbing-rated carabiners for faster rigging and packdown.I oiled them the same way I do my kitchen knives' wooden handles: a small amount of oil* spread on a clean piece of kitchen paper, rub it firmly in long smooth motions all the way around the wood twice, then immediately use a fresh piece of kitchen paper to remove any excess. Let it sit for a while on another fresh piece of kitchen paper so the oil can absorb fully into the wood before using, or before putting anywhere absorbent or sealed. *Clean cooking oil is good; I prefer food safe oils for things I touch immediately before eating, and I eat straight after training.

Bought these for my son. He is only 9 so not heavy and whenever he uses them they loosen and drop slightly each time.. sometimes only side does this, sometimes both drop together. this has put him off using them. I used the instructions to put them up so I'm confident they are correct. Would not buy again.
