Meinl PercussionCFT5-BK Cajon Foot Tambourine with Steel Jingles and MDF Frame, Black

Lovely sound off these, lively and loud. It's a pity about the quality of the strap. After only 5 or 6 hours of use the strap fell apart during a gig. The velcro - piece that's stitched on came apart so it couldn't grip the strap. I had to tie it onto my shoelaces to finish the gig! I will now have to stitch it back on myself. Would've expected better quality from a great brand.

The media could not be loaded.  I did a quick recording with my phone down at the beach (with lots of sea breezes and noise), which I think shows that this is a really bright sound and amazing for only the limited number of timbrels in place. You can basically get two effects from this. Playing with a toe tap, or playing with a heal tap. The strap is elastic so goes round most shoes or boots (mine are 9s). I would have preferred something on the underside of the strap to stop wear on the elastic and this would have also added a little more in the way of percussion of it had been a hard plastic or metal "buckle" etc.

I chose the compact version of the Meinl foot tambourine as I had researched the differences and understood that the compact version is constructed of hard plastic, and therefore more durable, rather than MDF as stated (probably a cut and paste error from the regular, non-compact version product description). Also that the elastic loop is sewn together through the plastic rather than held on with staples as in the non-compact version. Not sure about the difference in dimensions as this was not a significant issue for me. The other supposed difference was the compact is possibly louder but I haven't verified that. For the price difference of about £1 I think the compact is well with the extra as the build quality is fantastic. Soundwise, it is very bright and loud. Recommended.

This product - sometimes called "The Compact Model" is NOT made in MDF but in a much superior quality solid plastic and has stainless steel discs. Everything about this model is so much better than the other ones made by the same company. The elastic is sewn and not stapled and there is no way that the discs (the jingly bits) can fall out - which is the main complaint in Amazon reviews of the other model. This version could even be termed as 'professional version'. It looks like it will last for ever. Buy it with confidence. Excellent product!

Looks fun, bought it for a secret santa present for a musician friend. He thought it was a fun edition. The strap looks good, I didn't see any staples in it.
