CURRENT PRODUCT DOES NOT CONTAIN NIAGEN - See update to my review
12/20/19 UPDATEChanging my review to 1 star (previously 5 star) because my review below is NOT for this current product, which is NOT an alternative for NR.THIS IS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PRODUCTCURRENT PRODUCT NO LONGER HAS NIAGEN.This is a very different product now than it was back in 2018. The original product contained Niagen. Now, instead of Niagen, this product currently contains Niacin which, contrary to the title of this ad, is NOT an alternative for Niagen (NR - nicotinamide riboside).NIACIN CANNOT DO WHAT NIAGEN (NR) DOES.If Niacin could, there would never have been a reason to pour tons of money into research into NR.Niacin is not an alternative to Niagen.NMN IS THE ONLY alternative to Niagen- but that isn't used here. This is all about NAD+ production to bring mitochondrial functioning back to youthful levels so the body can heal and repair itself and rejuvenate.Niacin CANNOT do this!Only NR and NMN belong in the ungated pathway to NAD+ production, which is the necessary goal and result looked for. NAD+ production increases with increases of doses of NR or NMN without limit.Niacin and all other forns of B3 are gated by the body in regards to NAD+ production, and the body shuts down NAD+ production no matter how much B3 in these other forms you take.So buyer beware, this new product is not the same as the old product, and all the reviews before this review were for the old product, including my previous review below, so no longer apply.________________8/1/18 UPDATE BELOWOriginal review:I'm very sensitive to Niagen, have been taking it for over 2.5 years, with the effects of first dose being like having been plugged into a nuclear power plant.Niagen is funny that way - if you are having a serious problem producing energy on the mitochondrial level, you're going to feel the impact of Niagen right away. If your mitochondria are healthier, you won't "feel" it's effects so profoundly or quickly, but it's long term benefits are being put into motion. I felt it's impact on my energy levels immediately. It was the difference between being an invalid (bent over, hardly able to walk across the living room floor, in tremendous pain, and experiencing severe brain fog, and constant fatigue, even death-like fatigue at times) - and being able to lead a more normal life (stand up, walk, even climb hills, thinking more clearly, reduction in pain etc). It's REJUVENATION effects, however, didn't begin to be noticeable until 5 months had elapsed. During that time, I went from taking 250mg/day to 1000mg/day, or even more if needed. But when the rejuvenation effects became noticeable, it was sudden: the return of elasticity in my face, my hands looking decades younger. None of that was even hinted at the month before. I have continued to notice changes over the last 2 years.Originally I purchased my Niagen through Live Cell Research, and continued to use them as my source; but they just recently discontinued carrying it, forcing me to look for another supplier. Niagen is patented by Chromadex, so always look for both of those names on the label to make sure it's the real deal. You can always call Chromadex to make sure a supplier us on their list.I found Ceragen, and decided to give it a try. I'm on my 1st bottle. My baseline dose of Niagen is 1000mg/day. I have been taking this for a few days, and I can definitely say I seem to be getting the same effect and benefits I was receiving from the Niagen from my previous source. If I wasn't, I would be experiencing a rapid return of my symptoms. In contrast, since Niagen - NR - becomes NMN in the body before it becomes NAD, I decided to try a NMN supplement BEFORE I tried Ceragen. After 2 days I DID have a rapid return of symptoms and had to go back to Niagen. From what I understand, if you take NMN, it has to be converted to NR before it can cross into your cells and be turned back into NMN, so this probably made it much less effective.)Now, having been on Ceragen for a few days, my thinking seems to be even clearer. The real test will be with my memory, which seems to be better, but that's pretty subjective at the moment. I do have a significant problem with word recall, so I will be looking at that specifically to see if it improves over time.I do take enough of this every day to get 1000mg Niagen per day, 500mg morning and evening. All in all, this is working as well, and maybe better than my previous Niagen supplement (which only contained Niagen).8/1/18 UPDATE:After both myself and my daughter (who is also very sensitive to the effects of Niagen) took Ceragen for a few months at levels to match our previous Niagen alone intake - about 1000mg Niagen/day, we both noticed that taking the Niagen+Cera-Q did not seem as effective as taking Niagen alone AT THAT LEVEL OF DOSING. It seemed that by increasing the daily dose of Cera-Q along with the Niagen, we created a situation where that high of a dose of Cera-Q was increasing our need for NAD (end product of Niagen) so much that the Niagen couldn't keep up - so effectively creating a constant catch up situation like a dog chasing it's tail. What we did was pull back on the Ceragen to a double dose in the morning (500mg Niagen/400mg Cera-Q) and then take a separate Niagen-only supplement in the evening (500mg Niagen) and as needed. This seems to be putting everything back on track. I'm getting the benefit of the Cera-Q, which is significantly helping my memory, so much so that others are definitely noticing; and I'm getting the full benefit of the Niagen.2 thumbs up!

Really 125mg Niagen per capsule, and dubiously vegan
Two things to note - it's 250mg Niagen in two capsules, so really 125mg if you're comparing to the many competitors that offer more (some up to 333mg per cap); and while it's marked vega' I am skeptical that the silk protein this supplement contains could qualify - since it means boiling silkworms...

I need more!
Became menopausal this year and immediately started having brain fog. Very common in the first year of “ the change”. It was so bad I couldn’t remember simple tasks at work, making mistakes and forgetting phone numbers/calls. Decided I needed help immediately and bought Cera-q with NAD, I have been on it for 4 months now and what a tremendous improvement in not only my cognition, energy as well as all the aches and pains of getting older ! My only complaint is that when I go to reorder the product is sold out and I have to wait and check back daily to see if I can re order...wish Amazon had a way to alert me when the product was available.

I have an amazing amount more energy at the end of the day ...
I have an amazing amount more energy at the end of the day since about a week after I started using this. 2 tablets a day work really, really well for me.

My brain seems to like this stuff
I am wary of attributing a big change to any single thing, but I have not had a single one of of my previously frequent "brain fog and lethargy" spells since I started taking this stuff. So far it has been almost a month, and I am convinced enough to have reordered. I take two a day with breakfast. This may replace NoDoz as my drug of choice.

No benefit in comparison to True Niagen
I have been using True Niagen and thought I would try this type.It does not have any benefit that I notice (in comparison to True Niagen where I definitely notice a benefit).

OK - not sure yet.
We think it gives us more energy but haven't particularly noticed better enhanced memory or improved muscle endurance. We are going to keep using it for more months and see. It could just be a placebo effect that we are feeling.
