I volunteer with a rescue group and live in an unincorporated part of my county. This reader will come in handy when animal control may not be able to come out timely for strays. I checked the reader in both of my dogs. My older dog has a home again microchip which is 4 years old now. It read it perfectly fine. My younger dog has a 24 pet watch chip and that was also read correctly. The reader is quick to pick up the reading. It also picked up the 3 foster dogs I checked all with different chip manufacturers. My only change would be to lower the volume of the beeps. For timid dogs, it makes them jump. But I’m happy with the product overall

I own this scanner and it has never given me any issues. It reads microchips almost instantly. And I hold it anywhere within three inches and it will instantly read them. If your pet has older chips then it probably won't read them. But they would have to be almost ancient. I own 7 dogs and it reads all of them instantly every time. There are some scanners that are more expensive and some that are cheaper but this one works great for the price. When in doubt just return it. Amazon offers free returns on this item.

I keep mine in my purse, so it's always with me. Today, I took it out to check a dog, and it was just a dead screen! Not out of battery, just dead. It worked the first time I turned it on, got the ---> so I tried to check the dog for a microchip, but it went blank! I couldn't turn it on again! Just got home and it's fired back up, but it won't read. If I could exchange it for a new one, I would, because it's come in handy several times, but I can't afford to buy another one, as I'm in the middle of several surgeries.

For the price, it's fine. The numbers were really hard to read but it is accurate.

This scanner is compact, easy to use and has great battery life.I keep it to check strays, and shelter intakes. On my personal dogs it rated 2 out of 3, not reading one of the older Home Again chips but picking up the two ISO chips within a seconds time.So, I would say to use with caution understanding that just because it doesn't pick up a chip doesn't mean there is not one present. It just may be an older chip. Always double check with a vet's office if there is any questions.

I bought this scanner because I wanted to be able to ensure my pets' microchips were still in place and readable.The reader wouldn't read my elderly dog's 9-digit chip (as expected, as the manufacturer warns that 9-digit chips aren't supported). However, it easily read my other three pets' chips. What I didn't expect was how fast it reads the chip. Really fast!The scanner came 75% charged so I was able to use it out of the box. I don't need to transfer the data to my computer, so having the microchip number display on the scanner window was perfect.

I didn't need anything that tracked, stored, or looked up numbers. I only needed something to verify my puppies' AKC Reunite microchips were successfully installed and this does the job. Quick, simple, and compact. Perfect for my needs.

Like that it worked for several cats, though only for 134 kHz chips. You have to be within an inch to read the chip. Would like to have had USB access to it's memory to pull chip numbers into my computer but the USB tether to text editor function doesn't work with Linux (I use Ubuntu ver 18.04).Having said that. I'm pleased with this device. I was able to take a cat to his owner after calling local animal control. IT's a bargain at the price.
