I'm so used to being disappointed with cheap products that it's quite a shock to get something that's actually really good.This is an item that is extremely good quality. The base is cast alloy, painted and fly-cut to give a flat surface. The drill column is anchored to the base by a snug-fitting clamp that keeps it solidly upright. The drill itself is heavy and robust and is integral to the block that clamps it to the drill column. This uses two clamping screws, one at each end of the split tube that mates with the column.The drill speed is variable over a wide range using a small dial. It isn't geared, just variable electronically. The chuck is a proper 'classic' chuck with a key.I am genuinely delighted with this purchase. I also bought the adjustable work table which is made to the same good quality and was similarly surprised to find that it was truly designed as a companion to the drill - I expected the slots not to align! It isn't really a 'precision' item but it is still jolly good.I rarely post a review but some things deserve to be acknowledged.

A little fiddly to set up, afterwards - no probs!

A very good price and a good product. Not sure if it will handle a lot of heavy duty drilling due to the size of the motor but suits me fine

ok for small drill bits but moter is under powered and almost stopped when drilling a 5mm hole in 2.5thick mild steel, also has a slit wobble
