It’s giant and insanely heavy, but it’s perfect.

It’s NOT paperback. It is proper hardcover. It’s more like an encyclopaedia than a book. I don’t want to sound like I’m complaining, really, I just expected something like my friend had which is half the size and about a quarter of the weight. (It’s 5.8lbs, BTW) So I wanted to use this for research, but that will be a bit of a task.Still…It is an encyclopaedia. More comprehensive than you can imagine, with amazingly gorgeous colour photos. If you are a Fulci fan, it is a necessity. The amount of detail is stunning. The additional information about the actors is welcome and helpful. You do need to buy this tome. It’s a piece of art in itself, never mind the subject. I have seen few books this beautiful AND exhaustive. Worth every penny, and the ensuing backache from lifting it.

don't let item description fool you

I was very thrilled to receive this beautiful book in hardcover, happily contradicting the item description. This heavily researched and informed bibliography of Lucio Fulci's work is incredible, with detailed descriptions, reviews, and abundant screen grabs from his entire body of work, as well as many full page color illustrations throughout.Well worth the price tag for any fan of Fulci, gialli, Italian cinema, or honestly even just film history.

An epic and essential volume

Beyond Terror: The Films of Lucio Fulci is an astonishing and exhaustive examination of the life and career of the controversial Italian filmmaker who died of diabetes shock more than twenty years ago at the age of 68. Responsible for such gore classics as A Lizard in a Woman's Skin (1971), Don't Torture a Duckling (1972), Zombie Flesh Eaters (1979), City of the Living Dead (1981), The Beyond (1981), The House by the Cemetery (1981), The New York Ripper (1982) and A Cat in the Brain (1990), Fulci's cinema is equally revered and despised for its excessive violence, raw intensity and - dare I say it - visual poetry. Stephen Thrower's expansive book will I'm sure prove to be the definitive tome on The Latin Godfather of Gore and his many works. It explores all those aforementioned films as well as Fulci's diverse directorial attempts at comedies, westerns, musicals and historical sword and sandal pictures. Handsomely illustrated with countless photographs and posters, this is an epic and essential volume. Despite being dismissed by critics as crass and confusing exploitation, Thrower and his publisher, FAB Press, give Fulci's filmography the kind of lavish treatment that is mostly afforded that of his more illustrious countrymen Fellini, Antonioni, Visconti, and even fellow horror master Dario Argento.

A tour de force

As a fan of Lucio Fulci's films I really enjoyed reading this book about his films. Each entry on each film was like an essay, with a review too, with plenty of photos mostly in black in white, even for the color films he did. I wish there was more color photo's apart from the posters. Most of the emphasis of the book was made up of his horror films, from the Giallo style slashers in the 1970s such as Don't Torture a Duckling, to Zombie Flesh Eaters, The Beyond, Anegima and Nightmare Concert also know as a Cat in the Brain. However the director did direct other genres, such as comedies, some westerns and science fiction, all which were not very well known outside of Italy. At over 400 pages, and not out of print since it was originally published in 1999, this book makes an essential edition to horror fans collections even if you are not a fan of Lucio Fulci.

A True Treasure

This is a thing of beauty. Before i get to the contents i must tell you how wonderfully bound this book is. The cover artwork is striking, and the inside is stocked full of great colour images of posters and film still. The book begins with Fulci's daughters lovingly written introduction.Stephen Thrower commences on a journey through Fulci's varied career, each era and every genre and movie is covered in-depth.Thrower also looks at movies Fulci didn't get a chance to make for one reason or another. 'Beyond Terror - The Films of Lucio Fulci' is a complete treasure and an essential purchase if you're both an avid reader and a fan of Fulci.

Paperback = Hardcover

I bought the "Paperback" edition because someone I know had bought it here as well and actually got the HC. Looks like the "Hardcover" listed is an older edition of the book (hence the different cover).
