I feel like a perfect fool for paying $359 for them
I just received a new set of Van Staal 7" pliers. I bought Van Staal because I already own a pair of their 6" pliers and because I prefer the leather sheath. However, I don't think I'll ever again buy anything from Van Staal. The VS pliers are so poorly misaligned that a $10 pair of pliers would put it to shame. I feel like a perfect fool for paying $359 for them. I feel disrespected. Moreover, the sheath is made of significantly thinner and softer leather than the leather on the sheath for my other (6") VS pliers. The sheath just feels weak and cheap.Upon opening the box, I noticed that the pliers are made in Taiwan, the sheath in Paraguay, and the lanyard in Japan. So much for globalization. Evidently Van Staal is cutting costs to the maximum while holding outrageous high prices. It is sad to see what the market has become, a trap for fools with more money than sense. I plead guilty as charged. But I do learn from my mistakes.

The best pliers in the world.
I run a tuna charter and all of my crew uses these- I have bought a pair for all of my captains and deckhands as they are by FAR the best pliers on earth.I have had mine for 8 years (90 days a year of hardcore fishing) and have done ZERO maintenance on them and they work like new. They only downside is cost, but I was going through 2-3 pairs of $50 pliers a year, so in the long run, these are much cheaper.

Nice pliers but the stealth came with a crease in the leather, which is disappointing but not worthing my taking the trouble to return it.

Great Pliers
Great Pliers. Light weight and fit perfectly in your hand. The top of the nose doesn't line up which you would not expect from a pair of over $300 pliers. The sheath is good leather if the belt loop was more rigid and it had an opening to put a small bait knife it would be perfect. I made my own so that solved the problem. I love the lanyard it has strong clips and doesn't hold a memory when stretched

Essential gear
I recently bought these pliers as a gift for my son.I compared the brand new set to my 10 year old set....the only difference was a few scratches on the older pliers. Amazing durability in the harshest environment there is.The only negative about these pliers is they are a target for thieves.

Van Stall......I'm not impressed!
These are suppose to be the Mercedes Benz of fishing pliers and they are certainly priced as such. I purchased this as a thank you gift to a millionaire for taking us fishing for a week and putting my son and I up in his home. The first set I got was terrible as the nose of the pliers were off center by just under 1/4 inch (hardly German engineering) The next pair I got the carbide cutters are a few thousands too long so the pliers won't entirely close because the carbide acts like a brake stopping the jaws from closing completely. I looked online prior to purchasing the pliers and found that the carbide blanks are hard to find. Bass Pro and most other suppliers don't carry them. I contacted the manufacturer of the pliers and they do supply them at a whopping cost of $60. OUCH. I know what Carbide cost. These should cost the manufacturer around $15 bucks, and should sell no more than 30. Yes they are rust proof, but most fittings on a salt water boat are stainless steel, and last a good while. Longer if you clean them up with soap and water when you get off the water. I purchased the Ross Pescador Pliers for myself at just over 100 bucks and they look terrific compared to the Van Stall. (Although Amazon shipped me the wrong color but no big deal). The one good thing I can say about the Van Stall is the carrying case. Really looks like it will last a lifetime. Good Fishing..... Team Bahamas!
