JAYS t-JAYS One Noise Isolating Earbuds (Matt Black) (Discontinued by Manufacturer)

Very good headphones!

This was a gift and as far as I know the person who received the item said it is fine.

These ear buds came packaged nicely and creatively in a slide-out plastic box. The build quality, the accessories, all nice. Unfortunately, the sound quality falls short. My subjective opinion as a picky music listener:-Dark, strong bass, and weird. This is a "V" shaped sound, with the left side of the "V" way higher. A giant bass hump dominates (as shown in frequency response graphs), with by a big dip in the midrange. The upper midrange and treble are obstructed, as if a huge veil or bubble of cotton is right in the middle of the sound picture. At lower volumes, this bubble is even more noticeable.Extremely disappointing, especially because the parts of the sound that are not occluded are good, or they could be. I hear good separation, good soundstage. What parts of the mids and treble that break through are also good. The Jays engineers should fix it! Barring that, those who want nothing but the bass frequencies and loudness might have some fun with these. Otherwise, major EQ is needed.-Much depends on what you are listening to. For general listening, they are acceptable. For critical music listening that requires detail and clarity, more problematic.-They do not isolate very well at all. I can hear most of what is happening around me, even with the buds placed in the ear as tightly as possible.-Big microphonics problem. Wires and housing cause loud noise. Any movement, anything touching, any jiggle of the wires. This is not uncommon with ear buds and IEMs, but annoying nonetheless.-Check your source, and be aware of the volume output/impedence on these. I had to turn volume way DOWN. On a minimal volume setting, the volume is strong. (Do not blow your ears out by mistake)-They are comfortable and the ear tips fit nicely, once in.There is a plethora of ear buds and IEMs that compete at or below this price point, and many are, like the t-Jay Ones, bass-dominant and "V"-shaped in signature. This includes a legion of Chinese "Chi FI" IEMs of varying quality. The t-Jays are overall smoother than peaky cheapies, but the issues mentioned above remain.It is a huge crapshoot, but the prices are low enough that you can probably go nuts experimenting.Bottom line: these are bass-y and dark.If, on the other hand, you are looking specifically for a more neutral sound in an IEM/ear bud (the traditional Diffuse Field or DF definition of neutral, and not the bass-oriented Harman neutrality), you will have your work cut out for you. The t-Jay Ones are the opposite of what you want. Easiest solution: save up and go straight to one of the Etymotic Research IEMs.
