Now I have smart enabled Garden Fairy Lights - Brilliant
I bought this to use on outdoor garden fairy lights. The issue I had was the plug was outside in a weather proof box and unable to use the IR remote to change the lighting effects.Already have the Smart Life app, with other products so this was easy. I launched the app after plugging in the IR and the app automatically detected the IR smart remote. Added this in and the app alerted me to download the latest firmware which I did. After a few minutes, I continued on to setup my Garden Lights remote by adding as “other” and followed the onscreen instructions to add each button to the app.The frustrating thing is that Alexa cannot control any devices under “other” category. As someone mentioned I created a scene for each button. This allowed Alexa to automatically detect the “scene” within the Alexa app. I called each scene as String Lights 1, String Lights 2 etc (for the different colours and flashing modes) and had “Fairy lights off” and “Fairy lights on” for off and on etc…In the Alexa app, I added routines to allow me to issue the instruction in natural English as the commands would be weird otherwise. Eg, ‘Alexa, turn on Fairy Lights off’ to respond to my instruction of Alexa, Fairy lights off. So the command had to be “Alexa, turn on…. (The scene name)”.Once done all works beautifully. Bit fiddly with Alexa but that was down to having a remote control that wasn’t listed and non standard to be fair.

Works with Virgin V6 box
Wanted something to use with Alexa to turn on my LG TV and Virgin box - this little gadget does the trick. You can even ask Alexa to turn the volume up or down. Ideally I wanted to create a routine in Alexa to turn on the TV and Virgin Box and set the Chanel to BBC1, but in the routine menu you can only select on/off - never mind, it does 2/3.For the price, this is good enough for me! Wish it came with a USB charger.UPDATE.Not sure if this a new feature of the Smart Life app or if it's always been there, but i can now create 'Scenes'. This allows you to create a string of button presses which Alex automatically sees as a single command. So you can create a Scene of button presses for the Virgin box eg: 1, 0, 1 (each button press must be on a separate line) and save it with a name of BBC1. as soon as you save it, Alexa will immediately report that its found a new skill. To use it say 'Alexa, turn on BBC1'....... this is great.I've now created scenes for all my favourite channels which you add to alexa routines, so my original request of turn on tv, turn on Virgin box and turn to BBC1 by saying 'Alexa, good morning' is indeed possible!! :-)Yes, it's a little fiddly and i had to add a time-lapse 4s pause into the above scene to give time for the Virgin box to boot up, but it works.I've also managed to create a scene for 'Record channel' (press record, press ok)The one thing that I can't get to work is pausing TV - the pause button in the smart life app simply doesn't work. :-(Upgraded my score to 5 stars - this is a really cheap way of controlling a TV and virgin box (mostly)

Nifty little device once working, but can be troublesome
I bought this IR controller to add to my SONOS system when streaming CDs or DAB radio through a SONOS port and DENON Amp so that I can use some of my old HiFi components and listen to CDs.It took me a while to set up, the interface is a little clunky and would fail when learning the IR codes from my nearly 30 year old components. I persevered and have three set up now with just enough functionality to control the amp, cd player and DAB radio from anywhere within range of the house's Wi-Fi. The unit is pretty small so can be discretely positioned.A little tip when setting up, don't do it with bright light in the room, it seems to confuse the unit, at least when I did it at night with the room light on it had no problem learning the IR signals from the components' RCs.The Smart Life app is a little unfriendly at times, but already had it installed for other IOT devices, so knew what to expect.

Works but flimsy
I have tried a number of these devices which all work much the same from different manufacturers some square and some round. This one works fine, although it is has a rather flimsy case and button.

Fantastic Product (if a little pricey)
I have been on a mission lately to make products in my house smart, even the dumb ones you have to control by the remote. This does exactly what I wanted it to; control my air con via Google Assistant.Very easy setup, especially as I couldn't find the correct brand of my air con unit. However, its guided "discovery" process where you press a few buttons on the air con worked a treat. What I wasn't expecting was to be able to see the current temperature, current mode etc (I assume a signal is sent from the air con unit too?).The app is great and let me setup a complex automation which I wasn't expecting. For example, if the temperature in my current location is > 20C, and the time is between 1700 and 1900, turn on the air con at 20C. This is perfect as its in the lead up to my son's bed time so it should be nice and cool when we go up to bed.As an extra extra added bonus, it can control multiple devices from the same IR device. In the bedroom is a little star lamp. Now this is a custom device so you program each button so not as clever but definitely does the trick!I will be purchasing another one to add in my lounge to configure my projector, xbox and sound bar.
