A kitchen must have!
Super sharp for great cuts! Light weight but great quality. Big enough for most veggies but small footprint for storage. Grip the counter well enough for your hands to focus on the cutting

A good choice
I have had a couple of other mandolin slicers but was not happy with them. The problem with one was that it had way too many parts....bins, stands, brushes to clean, chutes. Getting it out for some small slicing task was like driving you Ferrari to pick up a gallon of milk.I chose this based on recommendations from chefs and overall have been pretty pleased with the results:Pros: VERY sharp blades for ease of slicingExtra vertical blade inserts (3) to produce slices across two axies.Easy to cleanEasy to exchange bladesConsistent slices once you achieve the desired thickness.Great for cross slicing apples for salads and other dishes. Really brings out the flavor.Great for cross slicing carrots into thin strips for salads.I also try to compost as much of our food waste as I can and we love fresh melon for breakfasts, but once you have gotten the fruit, the rinds are a pain in the neck to slice into smaller slices for composting. The Berliner does that job a lot more easily.Cons: VERY sharp blades. I also purchased a pair of anti-cut gloves that I use with this device for thosetimes when I am getting near the end of something I am slicing or an inadvertent slip of the hand. They have already saved me a couple of times and are well worth the added cost.Slice thickness adjustments: Other mandolins offer adjustments that work at set increments. This is infinitely variable, but done with a large knob rotated underneath. Sometimes when you want to get a thicker slice and back off the knob to lower it the feed side of the device, you have to manually press down on the feed table ahead of the blade to get it to descend to the full depth you have dialed in. It seems to stick a bit and the adjustment knob sometimes feels like it is binding. Hoping that over time, both will loosen up a bit.Slicer Guard: This unit comes with a plastic device with teeth underneath it designed to safely guide vegetables across the blade while keeping your hand out of the way. This works fairly well, but the vegetable can sometimes come loose of the teeth, especially when you are down to the final slices. It's a cheap thing and for the price, I think Berliner should provide a more solid metal holder.Once final piece of advice.....for safety, I recommend cranking the feed table to its maximum height which positions it slightly ABOVE the blade. That reduces the risk that in handling the device, your fingers might slide across the blade.Bottom line: A good mandolin....does the job, but take precautions for your own safety.

Works great and saves time
Love my mandolin! Saves a ton of time when prepping veggies. The blades are extremely sharp and food slices with ease. You can fine tune the size of your cuts with the adjustment dial on the back.

Worth it!!!!!
The best I’ve ever had. The blade took a long time to dull, and it is easily removable when you are ready to sharpen the blade.

Slick. And, a needed instruction.
An instruction I didn't see but figured out: To remove the feed table unscrew and remove the dial on the underside that adjusts its level. Then the feed table can be rotated and removed for cleaning. I really like this but I'm scared of it. It works better than the one it's replacing. It's sturdier and sharper. I keep the extra blades, the pusher and an anti-cut glove by it in the cupboard. When I put it away, I turn the dial so the feed table surface is level with the blade so It is harder to accidentally cut myself on it in handling and I put a refrigerator magnet/clip magnet with the glove in it on the blade to further block an accidental slice of flesh and remind me to use the glove. I keep the 3 slotted blades wrapped in paper towel pieces in a zip lock bag. The slotted blades are iffy, they may work or they may clog. The feathery slices this mandolin makes are enough reason to appreciate it. As I type this, I think I'll find a bag to store it in so it can't cut someone reaching past it in the cupboard. It is wicked sharp.

Very effective slicer!
Very sharp, as it should be. Extra width tackles most jobs easily. A protective glove will keep you out of trouble.Quick and precise size adjustments for food slices. Good value. Very effective kitchen tool.
