Less effective than a shotgun, but more neighbor freindly though
If you want something to ensure a dog never sets foot in your yard again, get a shotgun. Because this won't do it. But if you want to make your yard less fun for dogs, this is great. In weeks prior to installing it, there was dog poo in the yard every week when I mowed. In the 8 weeks or so since installing it, there has been dog poo twice. One was my fault - I turned it off while doing yard work, and forgot to turn it back on. The other time was within the first couple weeks, so the dog may have been still figuring it out.The neighbor dog does still come in the yard when playing fetch, playing with kids, or stuff like that. This will not drive them away howling in pain. But when the dog is looking for a nice relaxing place to squat, he can now find better than our yard. As far as I'm concerned, that is just about perfect. I don't mind them playing in the yard, I just don't like the mower tracking poo into the garage. These things are not supposed to be audible to people. Or at least not adults (children have a larger hearing range). But everyone I've asked under 60 can hear it when its on. What we hear isn't exceptionally loud, so it is not putting out full volume in audible frequencies. I think its just a sloppy/cheap buzzer that leaks into the lower frequencies. One other thought: It has a red LED that glows through the motion detector any time it is activated. At night it is visible from down the street... So today I opened it up, and put tape over it. There are 4 screws holding it together. You just take them out, and comes right apart. There are two things sticking up from the circuit board. One is the motion detector. It is like a metal button with a glass lens on the front. Don't put tape on it! The other thing sticking up is the LED. It looks like a small clear plastic light bulb. A 1/2" square piece of electrical tape covers it nicely, and now it doesn't glow every time someone moves.

BUYERS BEWARE VIDEO FALSE ADVERTISEMENT
BUYERS BEWARE: Video does not advertise the actual product being sold. Video advertises a solar powered unit but the one actually being sold is not solar powered. Only has AC power cord which luckily is very long but needs to be able to set up near a power source therefore if you plan to use this unit in a secluded area be aware. Unit is also not water proof or water resistance. Back panel is just a rubber slip on that clips to back and can be easily pried off with a finger or two. Unit also does not come with rechargeable battery which has to be purchases separate.

I really wanted to love this but I just couldn't stand it any longer!
It worked...for the most part. Here's my problem, I live in a rural neighborhood where the neighbors cannot be convinced to keep their dogs in their own yards. Now, I'm not a dog hater, I have two myself, but they stay in the yard. One dog in particular loves to come over and dig and poop in my vegetable garden. i tried the smell sprays but they seemed to like that even more! I had high hopes for this!PROS: It did work and seemed to work quickly! The dogs avoided it and started protesting by pooping right outside the boundary.I loved that it had the different frequencies to ward off different animals and animal groups.I even liked the color because it blended quite nicely. The motion sensor was a nice plus and seemed to work well.CONS: As others mentioned, you are able to hear it, and it is LOUD. On the upside, I was able to adjust the frequency just right to where I wasn't able to hear it but it wouldn't last. I figured out that every time ANY moister came in contact with it (sprinkler, rain, mist, someone sneezed just right) the frequency would change and the whole street could hear it again. It wasn't as bad from the back, but oh man, as soon as I walked in front of it my ears hurt. This was the prime reason I had to send it back and it was such a disappointment because I loved seeing the dogs stay on the other side of the sidewalk. One of the biggest annoyances was the back cover. Because it is made to be resistant to water, they made the back panel extremely hard to get on and off and you have to get it off to adjust the frequencies, volume, motion, anything. I took off the back once and only managed to wrestle it back on once before giving up and pseudo closing it. The time spent between the sound and the trouble it was to get the frequency back to where it was silent, standing guard would have been less time consuming. The red light was annoying, but whatever, I was willing to put up with it if it worked.Bottom line is that it works but it has some significant design flaws. If they fixed the back panel issues and the frequency issue when in contact with moisture, I would buy it. But as it was, I had no choice but to return.
