Probably The Best Type I Blank's You Can Get
The TDK D Series blanks were always some of the best Type I's ever made. I have used these since the early 90's. They have great dynamic range, and can be pushed into the red (+2 or even 3) on peaks without distortion providing you have a really good deck and they do well with both Dolby B or C (great with Dolby S). Tape quality is consistent and output is great. I am using them with my Sony TC-K615S from 1994 and when properly biased they do extraordinarily well and can get loud if you want them too (providing you bias the tape right before recording). The pic shows the peak range playing back a recording of Crystal Method's, 'Comin Back' and as you can see those peaks are hitting +3 (no distortion) with Dolby S enabled. For type I they are the best choice for music and were even back in the 90's when I made mixed tapes on a shelf stereo for my Walkman. Now with voice recording yes they will work fine as well, but with music is where you can really tell the difference between these tapes and others such as the Maxell UR. The Maxell UR (the newer UR's) in my experience cannot be pushed as loud nor can be biased as well as the TDK D but then maybe it's just maybe my Sony deck doesn't utilize them as good as some higher end decks might. Everyone's experience will be circumstantial depending on equipment but I have never had a bad experience with D's on any tape deck I have used. There are many cheap brands coming on to the scene now (such as ONN) as cassettes have been making somewhat of a comeback, but be cautious of those as the sound production is not there as it is on the old school type I's such as the TDK D, Maxell UR (older gen of UR) and Sony HF -these are the three I recommend for type I recording before stepping up to Type II.Highly recommended and have been using these since the early 90's. The TDK D's have never let me down.On a separate note: Some are saying that the reels can get stuck and the reason for this is because many of these are old stock. This doesn't mean there's anything wrong with them; it's just they have sat for so long without being used since manufacture that before you use them, it's a good idea before recording to fast forward to the end of side A and then rewind it. There is actually a lubricant on the inside of the shell and when you do this before recording it will lubricate the tape and then it won't get stuck. This is a rule you should follow before using ANY brand tape if it's new old stock. This also should be done for old tapes not played in a long time just to ensure smooth playback. Also make sure of course that you keep your deck/player clean. Dust and grime have always been an enemy with tapes and you don't want any of that in the path of the tape as it travels across the heads and capstan/pinch-roller. Not only does it not make the best recording playback, it can put uneeded wear on the tape itself.

False advertising, good cassettes.
Received five loose individually wrapped cassettes, not a sealed pack of 5 as advertised. One of the cassette cases was cracked, and another had sticky residue on the wrapping.Other than that, the tapes themselves are good, but I was disappointed that I did not receive a sealed 5 pack as pictured and described in the listing, thus the 3 star rating for false advertising.
