It comes with drivers for Windows and Macintosh, not Android. The chipset is the ASIX AX88179. They list a Linux driver for Android 1.x/2.x/3.x/4.x, Linux kernel 2.6.14 and later. But I have no idea how to install that driver on a Chromebook. Hope that helps.

Q: Will this work to connect an external USB hard drive to a router which doesn't have a USB port?

If you want to connect your hard drive directly to a router, you need something called NAS (Network Attached Storage), it's some specialized hard drive and costs more. Otherwise, you'll have to connect the USB drive to a computer.

Q: does this adapter support PXE boot

We use the USB31000SPTB to PXE boot with surface pro 3 machines all the time. There is a strong chance this will work also.

Q: will this product work as a 2nd network connection with a pc that already has a working nic card

yes it can. but be aware this product tends to fail. i bought one from newegg and one from amazon and both stopped working after 1 month. the usb still worked but it seemed the mic card inside both failed.
