Great tips
if you read the book and follow along instructions you will find out that is actually a really good book, sometimes I read a chapter twice because it’s a lot of good information and sometimes I miss some of it, what I do is read and draw that way I get the most of the experience

Excellent
This book is pretty good. Don't listen to the bad reviews -- I bought this book and by practicing the stuff in it I have improved a lot. Can you paint like these guys? If not then you can learn from this book, as I have.My 3 favorite books:- Icon by Frank Frazetta- The Art of Rowena by Doris Vallejo- Great Fighter Jets of the Galaxy 1 by Tim Gibson

Colors on printed book need improvement
I was so excited to receive this, lots of info which I appreciate, but unfortunately there is inaccuracy with the color mixes as to how they look on the paper, the colors are off comparing them from the book pages to how the actual color mixes look. Can use printing improvements.

Limited use
I purchased this after purchasing the fabulously brilliant, Anatomy for Artists (also published by 3D). I was disappointed as the Beginners Guide seems to be for digital artists and illustrators. The first 80 pages are interesting, but it is not a 'guide' to drawing the portrait. The painting section doesn't give any color combinations and there are far too many gallery instructor paintings. If you are a digital artist or have some expertise, it may be a interest, otherwise it is a limited use of you are looking for instruction. Do buy the Anantomy of Artists...it is stunning!
