If you're making baby back ribs this salt is a must!
If you're making baby back ribs this salt is a must! I've tried liquid hickory smoke and other ways of getting that "just right" hickory flavor. Nothing beats this salt!

Smokey flavor
Wow. This sea salt adds smokey flavor to your dishes. Now to be fair, one would need to use a lot to get a significant amount of flavor which is not feasible. But if you want a hint in your dishes, this is perfect. The bottle is small but should last a while if used with there seasoning salts or smoke enhancers.

Great flavor
Great spice to use on steak or pork chops. Good quality. Great value for the money. Taste great I would suggest not adding salt when using this product just because it becomes too salty.

Poor Packaging, Clumping Salt, Tastes a 7 Compared to Spice Island
I noticed supplies of Spice Island's Hickory Smoke Salts dwindling and stupidly didn't order a case. So now I'm starting the taste-testing process for an alternative. Could some company just reverse engineer the Spice Island version? This test was disappointing because there wasn't the plastic top with holes through which you can control the way it spreads over a steak. I used a spoon but found that a lot of the product missed the steak and hit the counter...not the product's fault. However, in the desert-like dryness of Colorado, the product had lots of clumps that needed to be broken up. Is a liquid hickory being used? Why did Spice Islands never clump, including when I lived in humid Chicago? This tastes close to Spice Islands but isn't as crisp and it over powered the steak a bit. The price seemed fair but I'd pay more if the plastic piece with holes was there. Heck, if I could ever find a Spice Islands bottle again, I dare say I'd pay a lot for just one more bottle. It's one of the things I search for at estate sales-lol.
