Introducing Python: Modern Computing in Simple Packages

Thorough
This is a good book for anyone starting to learn Python or reviewing it like myself. It is very thorough and written in an easy, humorous, and friendly style. There are many good examples used to learn from and practice. Admittedly, as I write this I am only about halfway through but I find myself looking forward to the second half. I started programming with Python 1.5 and stopped (retirement) around Python 3.0. This book is pretty much up to date and I am surprised at how much Python has changed and grown over the years, again courtesy of this book.

Rare combination of readability and rigor.
I've purchased a lot of Python books as I learn the language well enough to teach it to a 10 year old. This is my go-to book on almost any Python topic. I'm tired of books written by authors anxious to display their technical chops at the expense of readability, such as showing single-line programming puzzles that wrap a lot of functionality into a single statement. None of that here. Amazingly, it is an enjoyable read while giving clear explanations of Python elements. And considering its scope, it is bargain-priced.

Reallly? coding shouldn't be as much fun as this ...
LOL funny, no fat and nothing wasted. So up to to the wire you don't need to keep munging through internet tutorials and watch your life dribble away before your eyes... The humour is top notch, the explanations short and always succinct.Exercises pitched just at the right level for a 'false' 'ahem' beginner. But the real killer is that the reinforcement exercises are wonderrfully paced and graded. The author's blood is definitely worth bottling. An attempt at Ruby would be a marvellous addition if the author feels up to the task !
